I am That

You are not the triangle of thoughts, feelings, and actions—you are the light above it. The sun is always shining. I Am That.
I am That

by Nisargadatta Maharaj

In I Am That, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj cuts through illusion with uncompromising clarity. He reminds us again and again: you are not the body, not the mind, not the emotions—you are the awareness in which all of these appear. The goal is not to perfect the personality, but to see through it entirely.

In our PlayfulProcess terms:

The triangle—made of Thoughts, Feelings, and Behaviors—is the play of the personal self. When we work within it, we are on the long path: healing trauma, cultivating balance, clarifying perception. This has value. It’s the path of purification and preparation.

Nisargadatta often advised: “Abide in the sense I Am”—not as a thought, but as the silent, formless presence that is always here.

And when you rest as That, the triangle may continue to dance—thoughts, feelings, actions—but they are no longer burdens or projects. They are just passing weather in the open sky.
